It’s pronounced Chew-WOW. An easy way to remember is just chew it and you’ll say wow!

What Does Chuao Mean?

Chuao is a legendary cacao growing region in Venezuela. Chuao Chocolatier is named after the region as a reflection of our commitment to both high quality and our Venezuelan family heritage.

What makes Chuao Chocolatier unique?

Chuao Chocolatier's intent is to share joy with the world through deliciously engaging chocolate experiences. We realize that, like making the finest chocolate, there are certain ingredients needed in order to accomplish our mission successfully. We believe that our "pantry" is stocked with just what we need:

    We use recipes in a kitchen, not formulas in a lab, and believe that the best ingredients are found in nature or crafted with care. Chuao chocolates reflect our commitment to fresh food, free of artificial preservatives, additives, colorings, flavorings and hydrogenated oils.
  • Ethically Sourced Cacao 
    Our ancestors instilled in us a respect for cacao and the people who grow it. Therefore, we partner with purveyors who share our interest in sustainable farming and ethical business practices.
  • One of a Kind Experiences 
    We like to think outside the chocolate box, combining innovation and creativity to deliver sweet treats with delicately balanced layers of flavors and textures.
  • Artisan Techniques

Where do you ship to?

Due to the sensitive nature of our perishable chocolate we currently only ship direct to the contiguous 48 United States. This helps us prevent extended shipping times, which could lead to melting or damage en route.

 We are unfortunately unable to ship to military bases at this time.

When will my order ship?

Orders placed:

   Monday-Wednesday after 1 pm PST will be processed the next business day. 

   Thursday after 1 pm PST will be processed Friday and shipped Monday. 

   Friday-Sunday will be processed Monday.

Orders may take up to 2 days to process.

How do I track my package?

When your order has shipped, you will receive a shipment confirmation that includes the tracking number for each shipment. Be sure to check your spam folder! You can also log in to your account to track your order.

Why is Ground shipping not available?

Our team diligently tracks weather patterns across the U.S. If the route to your location crosses a warm area, we remove Ground as a shipping option because if your chocolate ships Ground, we cannot guarantee it will arrive in the best possible condition.

Why is Ground shipping not an option for me if it’s lower than 72 degrees where I am?

We actually determine the best possible shipping method based on multiple factors: the temperature here in San Diego, the temperature where your package is shipped, and the temperature across the route your package will take to get to you.

Is Will Call available? If so, how does it work?

Will Call pickup is now available! 

  • Place your order by 1:00pm M-F
  • Your order will be ready, and MUST be picked-up in our Chocolate Boutique the next business day between 11am-3pm (note: orders placed on Friday can be picked up on Monday).
  • When picking up your order, you will be asked to provide the order number and/or the name on the order. All orders need to be signed when picked up.
  • If you need to schedule a different pick-up time, call our Joy Concierge Monday-Friday between 8am and 4:30pm at (760) 476-0197 ext. 330 and schedule a time.
  • Orders that have not been picked up after 3 business days will automatically be placed back into inventory and a refund will be issued to the original payment method. NOTE: No refunds will be issued on bonbon orders.

How do I dispose of the ice packs?

These gel-filled packs with can be disposed of by placing in the trash can.

Do you offer any shipping discounts?

We do! If you are and spend $59.95 or more and Ground shipping is available for you, your package can ship Ground for free!

 If you’re spending $59.95+ and Ground shipping is not available (or if you want to get your chocolate quicker), choose UPS 3-day select, UPS 2-day select, or UPS Next Day Air and use code SHIP10 for $10 off* your shipping charges! 

 If you are in Southern California and spend $35 or more, your package can ship Ground free!**

What if I need to change my shipping method?

If your order has already shipped out, we are unable to change the shipping method. If your package has not yet shipped, we must cancel the original order and issue a new one. To do this, please contact our Joy Concierge Monday-Friday between 8am and 4:30pm at (760) 476-0197 ext. 330. 

Can you ship to a P.O. box?

We can! When you input your address, your shipping method will default to USPS.

Do you offer Saturday delivery?

Yes, only through USPS.

Why does my shipping need to upgraded?

We constantly monitor the weather to protect our chocolate from the heat. If your order will be passing through a warm region, especially during Summer, we pack it with ice, in an insulated bag, and must expedite the order.

Can you hold my order for a future date?

Yes, please contact our Joy Concierge at to establish a future ship date.

How is my chocolate packaged?

Each Chuao Chocolatier order is carefully packed to minimize damage to contents. We use cold ice packs and insulated wrappers during warm weather to ensure that our product provides a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. Our customers can rest assured that their chocolate arrives in the best condition.

Why did I get charged tax?

All orders with alcohol must be taxed.

Why didn't my promotional code or promotional offer work?

Please check the fine print associated with the promotion. There are several instances in which the code may not be accepted such as:

  • there is a minimum dollar amount required
  • the promotion is expired
  • the promotional product is not in your cart
  • the promotional offer cannot be combined with another offer
